Mentors

Jonathan L.

Jonathan is a 5th year FRC mentor and the instructor for the Robotics Mentoring course at UNLV. He is a graduate of Spring Valley High School from the class of 2008. Jonathan started his robotics journey in Chicago as a mentor for 5125, Hawks on the Horizon. He then started team 8229 in Oakland, CA in 2020, however the season was ended early due to the pandemic. During the 2022 season, he worked as a design mentor with 973 the Greybots and then was hired by UNLV and moved back to Las Vegas. For the 2024 season, Jonathan was a design mentor for 7426, Pair of Dice Robotics. He is excited to relaunch 8229 in Las Vegas as a community team.

Jonathan's family is from the Pampanga and Nueva Ecija regions in the Philippines.

Jeremy G.

Jeremy is an 12th year mentor for FRC. For 8229, he serves as Secretary for the Balikbayan Bots nonprofit and remote programming mentor. Jeremy started his first robotics journey as a student on Team 399 Eagle Robotics. He is a founding mentor for Team 5012 Gryffingear and won the World Championship in 2015. He has since returned to his alma mater as a Design and Manufacturing Mentor for Team 399 Eagle Robotics. Jeremy is an active member of the combat robotics community. He competes with robots as small as 100 grams up to 250 pounds. Jeremy works for the Department of Defense as an IT Specialist.

Jeremy's family is from Metro Manila and Bicol regions in the Phillipines.

Jackie P.

Jackie has mentored FRC teams since 2014; her speciality is operations and her passion is strategy. She was a student on Team 399 - Eagle Robotics in Southern California. Jackie mentored Team 973 The Greybots in Atascadero, CA 2014-2019 and the 2022 seasons, winning two world championships in 2017 and 2019. When she relocated to Las Vegas, NV she mentored Team 7426 for the 2024 season. 

Jackie's family is from the Bicol region of the Phillipines.

Dom P.

Dom is an FRC alum of Team 2976 Spartabots, where he was club president for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. For his undergraduate studies, he obtained a degree in General Engineering, where he focused on product design and advanced/robotic manufacturing, and later obtained masters degrees in Industrial Engineering and in Polymers and Coatings Science. He is currently a materials research engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where he currently develops novel materials for additive manufacturing processes. Dom will be supporting Balikbayan Bots remotely, where he will serve as Kultura coordinator and historian!

Dom’s family is from the Manila and Pampanga regions of the Philippines.
